Prof Reinhard Hickel, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and LMU Clinics; and Prof Alexander Gerbes, Head of Liver Centre Munich, Faculty of Medicine and LMU Clinics, visited CUHK to take part in the inaugural meeting for the establishment of the Global Alliance of Medical Excellence (GAME).

The LMU-China Academic Network 3rd Scientific Forum successfully took place in Munich, with plenary and Life Sciences and Health sessions held at the Biomedical Center Munich.
CU Medicine members joining the Forum included Prof Francis Chan, Dean; Prof Henry Chan, Head of Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Assistant Dean (External Affairs); Prof Ka Fai To, Chairman of Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology; Prof Nathalie Wong, Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology; Prof Jun Yu, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics; and Ms Monique Wong, Office of Global Engagement.
Apart from lecture sharing, strategic planning in research cooperation and in undergraduate and postgraduate training and exchange were also discussed and planned.

Collaborators of the trilateral research on “Multi-centre analysis of immune-regulatory mechanisms that protect from childhood asthma in distinct rural environments” met up in Helsinki, Finland to discuss progress of their on-going study. Attendees included Dr Bianca Schaub, LMU University Children´s Hospital; Prof Gary Wong, Department of Paediatrics, CUHK; Prof Chun Kwok Wong, Department of Chemical Pathology, CUHK; Ms Hannah Xing and Ms Miranda Tsang, PhD students, CUHK; Prof Marjut Roponen, University of Eastern Finland; Dr Zhaowei Yang, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Disease.
Prof CK Wong and Ms Tsang also presented part of their work at the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) congress 2017 held on 17-21 June at Helsinki.

LMU Munich delegation composed of Prof Alexander Gerbes, Head of Liver Centre Munich, Faculty of Medicine and LMU Clinics; Prof Orsolya Genzel-Boroviczény, Head of Neonatology, Faculty of Medicine and LMU Clinics; Dr Stefan Lauterbach, LMU International Office; and Ms Wencke Vonderhagen, LMU-ChAN Project Coordination, visited CUHK.
The purpose of the visit was to follow up on a joint-project in gastrointestinal research, explore further academic and research collaboration between the two faculties, as well as discuss the agenda under the auspices of the LMU-China Academic Network (LMU-ChAN).
